Karen Canada - Insurance-Based and Private Pay

Karen Canada is the director of Oasis Counseling Center, Inc. and has over 20 years of experience in the mental health field.  Karen has a strong reputation in the community for working successfully with a range of issues and diagnoses, including anxiety and stress management, depression and mood issues, post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, relationship issues, spiritual issues (traditional and non-traditional), work issues, decision-making, and personal growth and development. In addition to being a licensed counselor, Karen is a wife and mother.  Karen has been married for 9 years and has a strong relationship with her husband. In addition to formal training in marriage and family counseling, Karen learned a lot of marriage do's and don'ts in her first marriage and has been able to successfully apply that learning to her current marriage.  This life experience coupled with formal training allows Karen to better serve her clients.  Karen is also the mother of 2 children, both of whom were adopted.  The experience of not only raising children, but of going through the challenging process of adoption, further enriches Karen's life experience.  Additionally, in her 20s and early 30s, Karen struggled with debilitating anxiety and depression.  She actively took steps towards her own healing, learning first-hand what it takes to cope with and overcome the symptoms of anxiety and depression.  In addition to formal education and life experience, Karen receives ongoing training in counseling theory and interventions, which most recently included intensive training towards becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor. Karen is now licensed as a supervisor, which allows Karen to provide supervision to burgeoning counselors who are seeking their licensure. Karen is committed to doing her own personal and professional growth work so that she is better able to assist you with navigating through your life's challenges and personal growth and development.

Iyanna Coleman - Accepting New Clients, $50.00 per session private pay

Iyanna Coleman specializes in working with adolescents and young adults with anxiety, self-esteem issues, emotional dysregulation, and mood disorders. She is trained in dialectical behavioral therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, solution focused therapy, mindfulness, self-compassion, and brainspotting. Iyanna’s journey into becoming a therapist has been inspired by her own journey through recovery from anxiety and depression. Her desire for healing led her into the field of philosophy and psychology, and then into counselor graduate studies. While navigating through the healing process herself, she discovered the transformative nature of combining top-down approaches, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, with bottom-up approaches, such as brainspotting and mindfulness.

Iyanna is providing individual counseling to children, adolescents, and young adults using the modalities mentioned above. She is also providing workshops and groups for dialectical behavioral therapy for adolescents and young adults.

Iyanna is under the supervision of KB Canada who is a licensed clinical mental health counselor supervisor and who has been in the field for 30 years. She is attending the UNCG counseling program, which is currently ranked #3 in the nation for counseling programs. As part of a grant funded program through UNCG, she is receiving additional extensive training and supervision on working with children and adolescents.

Denis Hart - Accepting New Clients, $50.00 per session private pay

Denis Hart specializes in working with relationships, anxiety, and mood disorders, and stress management through mindfulness. He works with couples, adults, adolescents, and children. He is Level 2 trained in the Gottman Method, which is a highly renowned and research-based approach to working with couples.  He is also trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which is the primary approach he will be using to address anxiety and mood disorders.  He will integrate other highly respected approaches such as Systemic Family Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Mindfulness and Self-Compassion.  He is receiving ongoing intensive training in working with children and youth.
Denis is in his 2nd career as a counselor and has had multiple life-enriching experiences on his way to becoming a counselor. Denis taught English in France, served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the island nation of Vanuatu, and sang and played guitar in a rock band in Chicago. While these journeys across the world were pivotal to his personal and professional development, two of the most significant experiences include his internal journey through recovery from depression and participating in couples work with his wife. In his search for healing the internal relationship with himself and the external relationship with his wife, Denis developed a strong practice in mindfulness and self-compassion, which he now integrates into his therapy practice with others.  Denis is excited to work with all parts of a family system, including parents, adolescents, and children, but is especially excited to help people in intimate relationships experience the deep satisfaction and joy that he feels everyday with his wife, with whom he is expecting his first child later this year.
Denis is a counselor-in-training at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in the Counseling Education Department, which currently ranks #3 in the nation. He is under the direct supervision of KB Canada, Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor, who has been in the mental health field for 30 years.
